Infocomm returned to Vegas this year, which always bodes well for the buzz around the show. In my view, it didn't seem to suffer from what looked like a slight drop in visitor figures.

A hugely anticipated part of Infocomm was the first unveiling of Prysm’s LPD technology, which is the first time a new platform has been launched since DLP over twelve years ago. The Prysm team used a huge videowall as the central element of the stand, which was really striking, bright and showed off the uniformity of imag that this technology is going to be able to achieve. Lots of the stand’s visitors were talking about this platform being at the forefront of development in the industry with regards to eco-credentials and total cost of ownership, a trend which I see continuing to grow in importance for next year.

As an organisation PSCo has been championing videowalls for a number of years and it was great to see that they were thriving at the show, with Orion’s huge 68 screen Infinite Plasma 4250 wall and Christie’s Microtiles receiving a lot of attention.

The big change that was noted by our whole team was in the refocusing of the stands away from purely product displays, switching to a focus on applications. Many manufacturers have started to use solution led marketing on their stands, and working with partners to demonstrate innovation when it comes to the product’s use.  Solution based innovations geared towards the videowalls included processors, matrixes and content platforms. Also as expected, 3D was another central theme and seems to be becoming an industry standard in various formats including projection, LCD, plasma and LED, all of which need to have the glasses to be viewed....bring on the inventor of a technology with depth of field and no glasses!
