Hitachi is to build a new flat panel manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic.
A new company , Hitachi Home Electronics (Czech), sro, has been set up to operate the plant – which will make both plasmas and LCD TVs — in the Triangle FPD City, 80 km north west of Prague in the Usti region. Initial production is expected to start in summer 2007.
Hitachi is setting up UK capacity to meet a potential 20m set demand for large-scale flat-panel TVs in by 2008, according to its estimates.
‘Setting up a manufacturing plant in Europe will allow the company to achieve reduced production costs through optimised supply chain management, logistical efficiencies and a stable and consistent supply of product for the European marketplace for more effective customer acquisition; says the company.
The new plant will assemble flat-panel TVs and produce plasma panel modules and will work with the IPS Alpha Technology Europe LCD module plant ( a joint venture between Hitachi, Matsushita and Toshiba) which will be located next to the new Hitachi facility.
