Nato has installed Polycom telepresence systems in six international locations for daily use in central command communications, emergency management, crisis communications, inter-agency collaboration, and project management.

The technology is also helping Nato reduce its need for travel, as the geographic disparity among locations makes it difficult for teams to manage issues such as budget requirements and technical concerns.

The use of Polycom's TPX 306M telepresence systems was a joint project between the NCSA and the Nato Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A), which is responsible for scientific support and common-funded acquisition of consultation, command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities. This marks the first permanent use of telepresence technology within Nato.
