projectiondesign previewed a remote light source projector at ISE 2010. A liquid light guide is used to transfer the light from a projector lamp assembly housed up to 30m away from the projector head - allowing projector heads to be installed in hard to reach of demanding environments.
Mounting the lamp assembly in a remote rack also keeps noise and heat away from the image area and simplifies maintenance.
Performance of the projection rig is about 30 per cent down in terms of light output when a 30m light guide is being used, and costs are about 30 per cent higher than for a single unit projector. 10m and 20m versions of the light guide system, which can be bent around a 6cm radius, are being made available. Projectiondesign showed the system working with a version of its R12 1,200 lumen projector.
The system ‘simplifies maintenance, eliminates noise and dissipates heat, as well as offering greater integration and installation flexibility,' said projectiondeisgn marketing and communicatins manager Anders Lokke. ‘A typical application would be a 24/7 command and control room environment.'
